This project provided for the complete demolition and refurbishment of 3 lecture theatres and associated areas for the University of Auckland. The three lecture theatres which were refurbished service more than 900 students and comprise a major teaching facility for Auckland University. The theatre’s services are interconnected and each theatre is able to broadcast to the other two as well as provide internet training capacity for off-site students.

The University was conscious of the impact this facility has on their ability to provide training and the critical date of 8 February 2010 was set as the latest completion to allow the University time to install their services ready for the start of the academic year in March.

Additional works in the form of a major artwork and seating was added to Watts & Hughes’ contract along with a number of variations for changes and additions to the original project. Watts & Hughes was able to make up time and Practical Completion of the facility was achieved on 28 January, 1 week earlier than programmed.
