123 Remuera Road, Medical Centre, Remuera
A state of the art, bespoke architecturally designed Medical Centre including two levels below ground basement car parking, three levels above ground with a combination of medical theatres, recovery and consultation rooms. Construction involved substantial piling & excavation of approx. 5000m3, while Structure consisted of a combination of precast concrete wall panels, beams and flooring system and Structural Steel. Cladding the warped plane exterior envelope was completed in white Alucobond aluminum paneling and shopfront windows & doors.
This building is designed to have the effect of a free-standing pavilion suspended and floating in the landscape, this was achieved through a dramatic cantilevering of the upper two levels over the porte cochere at the front and the suspension of the rearward superstructure over the car park below. The building is fragmented into three principal sections with the floating sections flanked by the central element that is grounded and anchors the building to the site.
The interiors accommodate multiple clinical functions, but in public spaces are based on the relationship between the geometric ellipse of an eye and the warm organic field of flesh that frames the eye.
Key spaces are focussed on white geometric joinery set within undulating walls of clear finished vertical timber battens.
