Countdown Ashburton
This project was a new build of a Countdown Supermarket Store in Ashburton. The store is the second Countdown in the region and it had lots of local media and township attention due to this. The store is approx. 3500m2 of supermarket floor area and has 182 carparks. The store is situated parallel with State Highway 1 for quick and easy access right next to the Hakatere river.
The scope of work consisted of site works, drainage, car parking (182 carparks), plumbing, mechanical, electrical, structural steel and tilt panels, fire services, painting (exterior and interior), floor coverings, offices and amenities for staff, checkouts, in-store pharmacy, signage, cool rooms and refrigeration.
The opening was a major event in the town, where more than 300 people queued outside the store in hopes to nab an early shopper voucher. The staff put the final finishing touches to the in-store displays before the red ribbon was cut to signal the store was ready for business. The new supermarket has created 68 new jobs in the local community. There is plenty to appreciate in the new store, with wider aisles, a more expansive fresh produce department, a dedicated health food section and an in-store pharmacy.
As part of the celebrations there was a special kapa haka performance by students from Tinwald School, and $1000 food donation gifted to The Salvation Army as part of Countdowns Food Rescue programme.
