Cancer Society Lion Lodge
This project entailed the remodelling of the existing wing of 994 m2 that was retained from the former Braemar Hospital purchased by the Cancer Society and construction of a new two/three storey accommodation wing of 2,018 m2. There are 55 individual rooms, 3 family rooms, 3 common areas, commercial kitchen, large living area, etc.
The main construction material was timber framing around a structural steel and concrete skeleton. The exterior features are the cedar weather boards that wrap the complete exterior. The cedar external cladding is an outstanding feature of the building with matching cedar screens and glass balconies.
The addition of a 3 level 452 m2 extension after the structural works had been completed, which required endless hours of co-ordination between the structural steel shop drawings, carpentry team linking the roof structures together while maintaining the critical path programme, was the biggest challenge of the project but the team managed this very successfully.
