Watts & Hughes were selected as the main-contractor to carry out the redevelopment and extension of the existing CHT Acacia Park Hospital and Rest Home facility at 134 Hamurana Road, Omokoroa from 48 beds to 60 beds over 3 Stages / Separable Portions.

The 3 Stages / Separable Portions are outlined in the scope of works documentation and indicative staging diagram in the appendices, but a general summary is provided below:

Stage 1 will include part of the new building along the North Eastern section of the site. Formation of a new covered accessway to connect to the existing building will be required, enabling works and the construction of a new double story 26 bed wing. Stage 1 upper level will not be occupied until completion of Stage 2 due to egress requirements.

Stage 2 will include part demolition of the existing facility and construction of a new double story 26 bed wing along with the middle structure which links the two residential wings with lift and front and bank of house operations of the facility. The existing kitchen will not be demolished and will remain in use as a standalone building until the completion of the job.

Stage 3 will include demolition of the remaining existing building and completion of the new building. All residents need to move into the completed Stage 1 and 2 areas prior to commencement of Stage 3 works. Stage 3 works also include the front carparking area. The existing kitchen can be demolished once the new kitchen facility is operational. Upon completion of the new build the subdivision works may commence; including the shared driveway and infrastructure works.
