Heathcote Community Centre
Heathcote Community Centre was a design and build project, constructing a new community centre in Heathcote. We entered into a joint venture with Jerram Tocker Barron Architects (JTB Architects) and immediately began to work closely with the community via the Christchurch City Council, to gather an understanding of the importance of this project to the end users (local community).
The new Heathcote Community Centre consists of a meeting room, communal areas, kitchens, ablutions, library & external deck overlooking the Heathcote Cricket Club. The community centre was built with the potential to expand in the future if needed.
The building is a combination of timber and steel construction and utilises innovative XLAM cross laminated timber for large portions of the structure and interior linings. It’s clad in cedar and fibre cement sheets with large areas of high performance glazing.
The resulting building provides a welcoming open and flexible series of indoor and outdoor spaces that maximise views down the valley and orientation to the cricket field and afternoon sun, while providing shelter and shade to the interior spaces.
