The Bluestone Store, Auckland
The Bluestone Store was built in 1851, is a Category A on the Historic Places Trust Register and has a “Preservation Orderâ€. The building was constructed in unreinforced Bluestone and was unsound when work commenced. We carried out strengthening works with concealed steel members, grouting and other techniques.
The stonework was re-grouted (to match original) repaired and cleaned back to its original state. Timberwork was salvaged were possible but where this was not feasible new timberwork and joinery was built in matching sections. A new roof was also installed.
Throughout the process we worked closely with the Historic Places Trust regarding the discovery and preservation of various artefacts. This project required the careful selection of sub-contractors and specialists.
