Wairakei School Redevelopment
Following the demolition of the existing boiler house and classroom, a new extension (170m2) was added to the existing block 1. This extension comprised of a new reception area, community zone, meeting room and leadership space, The original Block 1 building (225 m2) was then repurposed to provide a fantastic new library and staff room. The vision for the extension and refurbishment was to create a link between the community and Wairakei School.
A 110m2 covered deck area provides easy access to surrounding landscaping, designed to inspire connection with the environment.
Designed to stand out from the surrounding buildings, the administration, community space and leadership extension, creates a focal point for the community. Large full height glazing provides a panoramic view through to the school campus, thus enhancing the feeling of connection between the Kura and the Bryndwr community. The tongue and grove soffits flow through to the matching ceilings with large circular details providing a point of interest.
Alongside the new extension and refurbishment, mechanical upgrades were completed to blocks 2 & 3, along with hard landscaping works and an extension to the carpark.
